Anderson Cooper: “I’m gay”
In an email exchange with The Daily Beast’s Andrew Sullivan, CNN host Anderson Cooper tells Sullivan that he is gay.
“The fact is, I’m gay, always have been, always will be, and I couldn’t be any more happy, comfortable with myself, and proud,” Cooper says. Cooper also explains that although he had always been very open about his sexual orientation to friends and family, others misinterpreted his silence:
“It’s become clear to me that by remaining silent on certain aspects of my personal life for so long, I have given some the mistaken impression that I am trying to hide something - something that makes me uncomfortable, ashamed or even afraid. This is distressing because it is simply not true.”

CNN notes increase in LGBT-inclusive advertising

In a feature segment on Friday, CNN reported on the recent surge of LGBT-inclusive advertising, taking special note of JC Penney’s Father’s Day ad featuring a Dallas-based gay couple and their two children. The ad is the latest in a string of LGBT-inclusive ads from the retail giant, which also featured gay moms in its Mother’s Day catalogue earlier this year, and which also drew the ire of anti-gay hate groups like the so-called ‘One Million Moms’ after it chose openly gay talk show host Ellen DeGeneres as the company’s new spokesperson.

Colin Powell on Marriage Equality: “I Have No Problem With It”

A week after President Barack Obama announced his support for marriage equality, CNN’s Wolf Blitzer sat down with former Secretary of State Colin Powell who affirmed the president’s position saying “as I’ve thought about gay marriage, I know a lot of friends who are individually gay but are in partnerships with loved ones. And they are stable a family as my family is. And they raise children. And so I don’t see any reason not to say that they should be able to get married under the laws of their state or the laws of the country, however that turns out – it seems to be the laws of the state.”
